the one reason i WILL stand next to a statue of thomas jefferson…

For a girl who went to William and Mary, I will never say Thomas Jefferson is my favorite person. I’m a Black woman living in America. If you don’t understand why, then I’m probably not the photographer for you. XOXO.

All that being said… the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C., will always hold a special place in my photographer heart. It’s timeless, grand in its architecture, and somehow manages to have that dreamy, glowy light almost any time of day.

Earlier this year, Peter asked Brenda to be his wife, and their engagement session was just as radiant as their love. They chose the Jefferson Memorial for their photos — a stellar choice if I do say so myself. April brought lingering cherry blossoms, crisp afternoon air, and two people who braved the chill and absolutely killed their session.

The best part about this spot? The symmetry and light. Even at different times of the year — whether April with blossoms (above) or October with golden tones (below) — the Jefferson gives photographers shaded, filtered light that works all day long. It’s one of those rare places in D.C. that’s versatile enough for engagement sessions, family portraits, headshots, solo fashion shoots, and so much more. Highly recommend.

If you’re searching for a Washington, D.C. engagement photographer, the Jefferson Memorial is one of my favorite spots to recommend. With its classic architecture, iconic columns, and stunning light, it’s the perfect backdrop for couples who want photos that feel timeless, romantic, and uniquely them.
