welcome to the salty side!

I know - nobody really likes to read blogs anymore. I find myself constantly wanting creators to just get to the point. So here ya go…

My name is Chayil (pronounced like “Kyle”), and I’m the founder and lead photographer behind Black Pepper Photography LLC. I’ve been photographing weddings and people for over five years, with more than 100 weddings documented across Virginia, Washington, DC, and beyond.

This blog exists as an extension of the work I do behind the camera. Not trends. Not guesswork. Real experience, built from years of photographing couples in every kind of light, season, venue, and emotional landscape. From intimate elopements to full wedding weekends, I’ve learned what actually matters when it comes to preserving moments honestly and well.

I’m known for candid, documentary-style wedding photography with intentional attention to color, light, and skin tone. I care deeply about how people feel during their session and how they see themselves afterward. That care comes from experience, not theory, and it shows up in the way I plan, photograph, edit, and guide every story we tell.

Yes, I love pink. Yes, I take photos. But more than that, I build trust, create space for people to be themselves, and document stories with clarity and intention. This blog is where I share what I’ve learned along the way, whether that’s guidance for couples planning their wedding, insight into how photography choices impact the final images, or behind-the-scenes perspective from years of doing this work day in and day out.

If you’re here, you’re likely planning something meaningful, or you care about how stories are told. Either way, you’re in the right place.
